Dr. F. Dean Lucas

LEXINGTON, KY - A special program, entitled, "A Kennedy Evening" will be held this Mon., Apr. 30th at Joseph-Beth Bookstore, from 7:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m., in Lexington. The program is the first of a series of events that will focus on the life and times of John F. Kennedy and the entire Kennedy family. The topic of the Monday gathering, being the first of the series, will be "Senator John F. Kennedy and West Virginia - 1960."

The presenter for the program is Dr. F. Dean Lucas. Dr. Lucas is a college educator who has specialized on researching and teaching Kennedy family history and legacy. He spent over thirty years as a college professor in southern West Virginia, before moving to the Lexington area. Of that period in the classroom, he's studied and taught various aspects of the Kennedy topic for over two decades. He's considered a national authority on the subject matter.

"I'm especially excited about this new series to be held at Joseph-Beth," Dr. Lucas said, explaining that the story—the history, the impact, the politics, and the controversies—of the Kennedys continues to attract interest worldwide. "This powerful family's influence on the Bluegrass State remains immeasurable, and our goal with this program is to focus on the Kennedy's connection to Appalachia and, specifically, Kentucky."

In addition to Dr. Lucas, there will also be several guests and attendees scheduled to appear during the event, including author F. Keith Davis. Davis is the author of the critically acclaimed book, published by Woodland Press, entitled, "West Virginia Tough Boys." The literary work has been described in a review by Midwest Publishers as a historically significant literary work about mountain politics and the 1960 presidential primary campaign. The Mountain State is often sited as the most important and vital win in Kennedy's early bid for the White House. Davis' book features a great deal of research, along with interviews and discussions with a variety of politicians and campaign workers from yesteryear about the primary campaign.

The program is open to the public. For additional information on "A Kennedy Evening," contact Joseph-Beth Booksellers - Lexington, 161 Lexington Green Cir # B, Lexington, KY 40503; phone (859) 273-2911.
